Lava cake or molten chocolate cake is an eminent dessert item which tends to bring together the elements of a chocolate cake and a soufflé. That is the reason why it has been called lava or molten or even chocolate moelleux cake. It was said to be invented by United States-based chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten in New York City in 1987. But Jacques Torres, the French chef and chocolatier rubbished his claim saying that something like this already existed in France. Vongerichten had accidentally said to make this kind of cake when his cake batter was said to be still runny, but was warm and had both a good taste and texture. Still the United States of America and the people of other nations are grateful for Vongerichten’s invention of this luscious cake and have been drooling ever since its discovery.
