How To Cook Your Shrimp Three-Ways

Shrimp comes in all sizes, from tiny one-biters to meaty Jumbo shrimp. What they all have in common is their juicy, pink flesh and buttery, almost sweet, sea-scented flavor. Shrimp is hands down one of the most delicious ingredients on the planet, and the curly crustaceans are versatile too!

Shrimp from Daily Seafood in Toronto can elevate a weeknight dinner to celebratory heights and turn special occasions into memorable dinners. The tiny creatures are noble like that. From dozens of ways of cooking shrimp, here are our favorites — how to cook shrimp three-ways.

1. Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp

Easy and delicious are two words seldom seen in the same sentence, but the fantastic Lemon Garlic Butter Shrimp is just that and more.

Firm but juicy, and with the loveliest combination of fresh citrus, unctuous butter, aromatic garlic and Italian herbs, this dish is as pretty as it is appetizing. Here’s how to put it together.

Clean rinse and pat dry 1 1/2 pounds of large shrimp. Melt 5 teaspoons of butter in a thick-bottomed skillet and throw in 2 chopped garlic cloves until golden.

Add the shrimp and cook through. It should take less than ten minutes. Season with coarsely chopped parsley and squeeze in the juice of one lemon. Serve immediately and enjoy!

2. Garlic Shrimp Stir-Fry

Asian-inspired stir-fries are awesome, not only because they are entire meals with tons of color and flavor, they’re ready in fifteen minutes. The secret behind the most delicious stir-fries? It’s all in the sauce.

In a small mixing bowl, add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, three tablespoons of brown sugar, and one teaspoon of roasted sesame oil. Reserve.

In a second bowl, combine 1 cup chicken broth with just one teaspoon and cornstarch and set aside.

In a hot skillet or wok, flash-cook one pound of medium-sized shrimp along with 1 diced bell pepper, 1 cup of broccoli florets and 1 shredded carrot. Stir frequently and add the sauce.

After 3 minutes add the chicken broth and cover the skillet. Let it cook for five minutes until the broccoli softens and serve over a bed of white rice.

3. Easy Shrimp Gumbo

There’s nothing like the Southern traditions to enhance shrimp’s sweet flavor. And what’s more comforting and homier than a bowl of steamy gumbo?

In a large saucepan, sauté one chopped onion with a teaspoon of oil until translucid and throw in half a pound of sliced sausage. Cook until golden brown.

Add one chopped green bell pepper, stir for two minutes and pour in one can of diced tomatoes and their juice, one cup of chicken broth, one bay leaf, salt, pepper and chili powder to taste.

Cover the pot and let the gumbo boil. Throw in one pound of clean shrimp along with half a cup of instant rice and remove from heat. Let the rice cook while covered (about 5 minutes) and serve!
