Most of us are now only too well aware of the need to recycle our waste. The colour-coded bins we use have gone a long way towards helping us all to become more environmentally aware. But there is another way that we can extend our eco-warrior credentials too, and it’s in relation to something we do every day. It’s about what we eat and drink.
Environmentally friendly food and drink can be eco-friendly in more than one way. First of all, there is the product itself. It should only come from sustainable sources. If the supply of something is limited and not renewable, by carrying on consuming it, we run the danger of it becoming obsolete.

Animal And Mammal Species Endangered With Extinction
There are already many species that have disappeared. At one stage whales were threatened with extinction. Fortunately, we recognised the dangers in time and put a stop to the whaling industry. The whale population has now recovered to some extent, although six of the thirteen species are still considered to be endangered.
Eat Sustainable Seafood Only
The fish we catch and eat can also play a big part in sustaining depleted resources. You can play your part in protecting fish numbers by choosing to eat the products of the environmentally-conscious food companies you’ll find on the Sustainable Seafood Coalition website.
Environmentally Conscious Food Companies Use Green Packaging
Another important aspect of eco-friendly foods and drinks relates to the ways that it is packaged. Millions of tons worth of plastic packaging is still used by unethical food suppliers, and much it ends up at the bottom of the sea, polluting the world’s oceans.
Thank goodness for companies like Greenman Packaging. Greenman manufactures food and drinks packaging, made not from plastic, but from plants. They sell compostable cutlery, compostable food delivery boxes, compostable pizza boxes, and compostable hot food takeaway containers.
Halo Compostable Coffee Pods
The drinks industry can play its part too, as per Halo biodegradable Nespresso pods. They sell their coffee in Nespresso compatible compostable pods.
In one year alone, the coffee industry produces approximately 60 billion coffee capsules made from plastic and aluminium. It is an environmental nightmare. But now, you can buy your coffee in compostable pods. Unlike industrial compostables which take years to degrade in huge landfill sites, these eco-friendly capsules can be composted at home in a matter of weeks.
Most of us love coffee, and what better way of becoming an eco-warrior than by only buying coffee that is available in compostable packing? It’s a no-brainer.
